Amazing content-aware image sizing technique

This video by Dr. Ariel Shamir shows off his presentation on content-aware image sizing that was presented at SIGGRAPH this year. What this means that you can resize (both shrink AND expand) and image with minimal visible loss. It's ... unbelievable until you see it for yourself :o

I'd say this type of adaptive image resizing will most likely be the future of digital image processing the future.

Fantastic. Beautiful. Will have widespread applications in mobile devices, too.

Seam Carving at work here

Seam Carving is a great way to enhance digital photos. And the demo video is great too (specially the part where you can remove people from pics) :) I also have a relevant post on my blog here.

On an unrelated note, I couldn't figure out how to create a username for commenting...

Noe Neault

Just because technology can do something doesn't mean it should. This treats photography, art, AND reality as just another cheap commodity that you can do anything you want with. It amounts to fakery, fraud. Why is that technologists often fail to consider the ethical implications of their inventions before they release them on the world?

Integrity

So I can distort an Image without degradation. So what. In most of the examples that were shown the integrity of the image was lost. :wall:

Great. . .

Hey Noe Neault/guest a little hysterical there fella! What about a photoshopped picture. It retains a sense of the images and you don't have to apply it to you image. . .I'm sure photo editors/photographers will use it sparingly. most newspapers for example add a copyline if the use a manipulated image, the fact that you can see the image change when you scale it almost negates that. Incredible piece of code. . .have Adobe come knocking yet?
